Fair Housing Friday:Visions Of Home, Broadening Our Housing Vocabulary

Fair Housing Friday : Visions of Home

Broadening the Way We Envision Home & Community

How can we create a more expansive housing vocabulary that reflects our history and the vision of the future for Vermont we are working towards? Speakers from Vital Communities, Burlington’s Department of Planning and Zoning and Hinesburg’s Housing Committee join us to share some of the ways they are answering this question.

In this Fair Housing Friday, panelists come together to share their perspectives on how we talk and think about our Vermont communities in terms of housing.

We are joined by Beth Whitlock, Henisburg Housing Committee member and PhD candidate of Anthropology at Brown University, John Haffner housing and transportation program manager at Vital Communities, and Meagan Tuttle & Sarah Morgan of the Burlington Office of City Planning.
Our panelists will cover a lot of ground related to this topic, from the discrepancy between the ways neighborhoods across Vermont may surprise you in how they were historically shaped, what our commuting patterns can teach us about our housing needs, whether and how housing advocacy can be accessible to “everyday people,” and ways we can make the housing conversation more inviting to a broader community.
